The 1-1 draw between LA Galaxy and the New York Red Bulls on May 7th was as high quality a game as we've seen in MLS, quite possibly surpassing the hype and putting the league's best foot forward on a big stage after a fairly difficult beginning to the 2011 season. A legitimate rivalry between the two biggest market teams involving the league's two highest profile players can't be seen as a bad thing, and Landon Donovan and Luke Rodgers are certainly doing their part to ratchet up the tension.
LA Galaxy’s Landon Donovan And New York Red Bulls’ Luke Rodgers: The Beginnings Of A Twitter Spat?
On Landon Donovan, Luke Rodgers said "The kid is a d***head."
Note: the wording of the above Tweet has been altered slightly. Click through if you’re having trouble deciphering Rodgers’ true intent.
Dyer goes on to quote Rodgers as saying that Donovan “talks too much” and “needs to be more humble.” All solid character advice from a man who disfigured a 16-year-old girl with fireworks.
Never one to back away from a bit of banter (assuming, of course, that you’re not attempting to disagree with him on Twitter in which case he will block you posthaste) Donovan offered the retort below:
I'm confused, who is Luke Rogers? RT @JasonEndres: @landondonovan Luke Rodgers thinks you are a prick, what do you think of him?
Not quite Robbie Savage-Rio Ferdinand level verbal fisticuffs just yet, but a good start. Now, if only we could get Rodgers set up with a Twitter account of his own.
