Costa Rica Vs. Honduras, 2011 Gold Cup Quarterfinals: 0-0 Halftime

Costa Rica and Honduras haven't played a particularly great first half at the New Meadowlands Stadium, but it hasn't been inherently boring. They're playing a tough, physical game, and both teams are struggling to create scoring chances because of the style of play. The temporary grass which has slowed things down hasn't helped, but if either team blames it for their performance, they're just making excuses. For now, nothing has been solved in this Gold Cup quarterfinal, and both teams have everything to play for in the second half.

Honduras have looked like the slightly better team, much to the surprise of most people. It’s not that Honduras isn’t a good team, but most of their best players are unavailable, leaving them to play a slightly makeshift lineup. Unfortunately, they appear to have lost another player to injury, with Walter Martinez coming out for Ramon Nuñez in the middle of the half.

The Ticos have looked fairly poor all-around, and it's probably due to their selected players not meshing. Ricardo La Volpe has tried to fit Alvaro Saborio, Bryan Ruiz, and Marco Ureña into the same squad. Simply put, it's not working the way he probably thought it would.
