After an average match against Costa Rica and an average start against Guatemala, 'Chicharito' Javier Hernandez has, unbelievably, done something even more impressive than any of his five goals in Mexico's first two games. With Mexico locked in a 1-1 draw with Guatemala, the Little Pea scored what is debatably the best goal of the tournament - unseating teammate Andres Guardado - putting El Tri ahead 2-1. As it stands, they have a date with Honduras in the Gold Cup semifinals.
Mexico Vs. Guatemala, 2011 Gold Cup Quarterfinals: ‘Chicharito’ Javier Hernandez Scores Incredible Backheel Goal
The man who set up the goal was Pablo Barrera, which should be no surprise to anyone who’s been watching El Tri during Jose Manuel de la Torre’s reign as manager. While Chicharito is the biggest star and Giovani dos Santos and Andres Guardado get tons of press, Barrera has been the unsung hero of the Mexico attack on the right wing. He put in a low cross to Hernandez, and having already run by it at the near post, he re-positioned himself and backheeled the ball into the back of the net. Mexico now just have to hold on to their lead, but they will probably look to expand it.
