If you’re new to the world of women’s soccer, you’re probably wondering exactly how Equatorial Guinea qualified for this tournament. They’re a slight surprise entry, as no team other than Nigeria or Ghana had previously qualified for the Women’s World Cup, but at the same time, their rise isn’t out of nowhere. They won the 2008 CAF Championship and were runners up in the 2010 edition of the competition. They take on Norway in their first game, while Marta and Brazil take on Australia in the late game.
Genoveva Añonma, who plays her club football at Turbine Potsdam, is unquestionably the star of the team. Otherwise, the team’s players aren’t exactly widely known in the world of club football. Their recent record indicates that they might be able to give Norway some trouble, but Norway are a top 10 team in the world and are very much expected to get a victory.
