Coming into their crucial 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup match, both Canada and France had some question marks surrounding their team selections. Canada didn’t know if they were going to have their star Christine Sinclair, who broke her nose in the match against Germany, while some speculated that France would make personnel changes by choice. They looked better against Nigeria when Eugenie Le Sommer came in as a substitute, but she will start this game on the bench, just like the first game. Here are the lineups.
FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011, Canada Vs. France: Christine Sinclair Starts, Les Bleues Keep Soubeyrand In Lineup
Canada lineup: McLeod; Zurrer, Kyle, Wilkinson, Matheson, Chapman, Schmidt, Julien, Timko, Sinclair, Filigno
France lineup: Sapowicz; Georges, Soubeyrand, Bompastor, Abily, Lepailleur, Necib, Bussaglia, Thiney, Delie, Viguier
The lineup implies that Sonia Bompastor will be playing left back, while Louisa Necib, often called the ‘female Zidane’, will be playing left midfield. In their first game, France played mostly down the left side through those two players. Keep an eye on how they match up against Canada’s right side. Going the other way, Sinclair will be the most important player for Canada, and even though she’ll be wearing a mask, don’t expect her to be any less effective.
Kickoff is at 12 pm ET, 6 pm local time.
