Adding Torsten Frings and Danny Koevermans Is Great, But Will It Lead Anywhere - Waking The Red
That Toronto FC spent some money to sign a pair of Designated Players, Torsten Frings and Danny Koevermans, did not come as a big surprise to most of their supporters. This team has, if nothing else, shown a willingness to spend big money. The question Waking the Red poses is, Will it work any better than it has in the past?
The TFC experience seems to be one big ride, call it a roller coaster, a helter skelter, whatever, between hope and despair, that never actually manages to stop at any real tangible achievement. Whenever things seem to be getting too bad, when fans are staring to tune out, attendance, atmosphere and TV ratings are down, or supporters groups are getting testy, that’s when MLSE will make sure that something happens. That’s the position we all found ourselves in recently, and lo and behold, over two weeks before the transfer window opens, and they can actually play, the signings are announced, and we’re back at hope.
In Frings and Koevermans, Toronto FC would at least appear to have the type of talent that head coach Aron Winter has been seeking. Both players have spent time with big clubs and have resume’s that suggest they can help TFC get back into the playoff race.
