Just as some expected, without Landon Donovan in the attack the Los Angeles Galaxy struggled to get anything real going Friday night against DC United. But the real shocker may have been the fact that DC controlled the tempo and the possession in this game.
Los Angeles Galaxy Vs. DC United: Galaxy Come Out Flat Without Donovan In Scoreless Draw
The Galaxy were without three key players for this one and it showed. Donovan and keeper Donovan Rickets were out on Gold Cup duties while Juan Pablo Angel was a late scratch to Bruce Arena's 18-man roster.
With that LA looked flat and DC tried to take advantage of it with Andy Najar and with the return of Charlie Davis to the lineup. Najar nearly got United on the board in the 25th minute when he took a long ball into the Galaxy penalty box and sent in a great cross to striker Josh Wolff. The veteran however was unable to get on the end of it.
LA saw a few chances but only the good ones fell to Chad Barrett, who returned to his old ways of missing key opportunities.
The Galaxy remain atop the Western Conference and the MLS table at the moment with 30 points. United take the draw and move more comfortably into third place in the Eastern Conference behind New York and Philadelphia.
