Match Suspended In Argentina After Police Officer Shot By Hooligans

Just a few days ago, Rosario was at the centre of a hubbub as Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi was forced to dodge a punch while signing autographs for fans in the city, but while that could be construed as at least mildly entertaining, the latest news is far less so. A match between Newell's Old Boys and San Lorenzo has been suspended following an incident in which a police officer was shot and wounded by a pair of hooligans on a bike, who were allegedly aiming at a rival faction of Newell's Old Boys supporters.

↵Yes, that’s right. This was apparently a gang of hooligans shooting at other hooligans supporting the same team. Fortunately, the officer, Maximo Alegre, is in good condition, but this sort of behaviour is lunacy. It’s the third match suspended in the league this season (there’s already been one football hooliganism related death), and it’s a sign of how deeply sad some aspects of the football culture are. It’s just a game!
