Copa America 2011, Colombia Vs. Bolivia: Halftime, Radamel Falcao Brace Has Colombia Ahead

Through 45 minutes of action, it’s been all smooth sailing for Colombia, who aren’t being challenged by Bolivia much at all. Thanks to two goals by Radamel Falcao - one of them coming from the penalty spot - Colombia lead by a score of 2-0 at halftime, and it hasn’t been difficult for them at all. Between this half of football and Bolivia’s loss to Costa Rica, Argentina’s draw in the first round of games is starting to look downright embarrassing.

The first goal was the product of atrocious defending, as Dayro Moreno played Falcao through on goal with a simple ball from a deep position in midfield. Bolivia’s back line was completely disorganized and Falcao was able to run onto it easily, eventually rounding keeper Carlos Arias and putting a nice shot into the back of the net at the far post.

Falcao completed his brace with a penalty kick, drawn on a silly foul from Santos Amador. He converted the kick, then went to the bench for a group celebration, where the team held up the jersey of their normal starting goalkeeper, David Ospina. The Nice No. 1 was injured on the first day of national team training camp and is unable to play in the tournament.

If this result holds, Colombia will be going through in first place. This may or may not be a good thing, as they could end up playing Uruguay, Paraguay or Brazil in the quarterfinals. All would be formidable opponents.
