After a dominant start to their 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup group stage match against Colombia, the United States have taken the lead, thanks to an absolute screamer of a goal from Heather O’Reilly. She’s looked dangerous early on with her runs down the right flank, but it’s a bit rare that she attempts a long shot from outside of the penalty area. She did just that in the 11th minute of this game, hitting a ripper of a 30 yard shot into the side netting at the far post, and the USWNT lead by a score of 1-0.

The U.S. women should probably have more than one goal to this point, if not for the poor finishing of Amy Rodriguez. Badly missed shots by Rodriguez are almost becoming a meme, and she’s added to it in this game with three bad misses in the opening nine minutes. Her speed is incredible, but her finishing continues to let her down.
Pia Sundhage made one change in this game, bringing in Lori Lindsey for Shannon Boxx, and so far it looks like a good change. Lindsey is winning tackles in the center of midfield and hasn’t misplaced a pass.
