UANL Tigres Vs. Cruz Azul, 2011 Apertura: Final Score, Blue Machine Fight For 1-1 Draw

Cruz Azul failed to get all three points at the Estadio Universitario on Saturday night due to a bad error by captain Gerardo Torrado, but they were otherwise able to execute their tactics to perfection. Despite UANL Tigres fielding a fantastic lineup, the great crowd in Monterrey, some suspensions for Cruz Azul, the visitors did well to get a point as the match ended with a final score of 1-1.

Javier Aquino scored the opening goal of the match in the 19th minute, putting in a great goal on the counter-attack, assisted by striker Emanuel Villa. Cruz Azul thought they were going to take a 1-0 advantage into halftime, but in the 37th minute, their fortunes changed. With no pressure on him, Torrado inexplicably passed the ball directly to Tigres striker Hector Raul Mancilla at the top of the penalty area, and he pounced on the ball, then scored the equalizer.

Tigres controlled the possession in both halves, but a good performance from backup goalkeeper Yosgart Gutierrez and a good tactical gameplan from Enrique Meza guided the Blue Machine to a credible draw. The hosts will definitely be the more unhappy of the two sides, as they will feel that they should have done more to win the match.
