As promised, Major League Soccer named six more players to their inactive All-Star roster on Monday. The players were determined by a vote of the players and will receive All-Star bonuses, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, but won’t play in the game.
MLS All-Star Game 2011: Osvaldo Alonso, Eric Hassli Among Final Six
Osvaldo Alonso, Eric Hassli, Joel Lindpere, Dwayne DeRosario, Nick Rimando and Juninho were all named. Interestingly, no defenders made the cut.
None of these names should come as much of a surprise. Alonso, long considered one of the league's unsung heroes, has been enjoying a breakout season with the Seattle Sounders, leading the league in tackles and adding three goals. De Rosario, despite two trades, has six goals and six assists. Hassli, a first-year Designated Player, has eight goals in just 14 games. Lindpere has produced five goals and five assists, while becoming an on-field leader. Juninho has thre goals and two assists as a primarily defensive-minded midfielder. Rimando is once again enjoying a stellar season in goal for Real Salt Lake.
