Monterrey Vs. Tijuana: Halftime, Xolos Lead By 2-1 Score Away

The first major upset of the 2011 Apertura is brewing. After 45 minutes of play at Estadio Tecnologico, the newly promoted Club Tijuana Xolos lead heavily favored Monterrey by a score of 2-1, thanks to goals by their stars Dayro Moreno and Joe Corona. They looked like they were going to go into halftime with a 2-0 lead, but a bad defensive error at the end of the half gifted a goal to Sergio Santana.

The Xolos struggled in Week 1 against Monarcas Morelia, but the addition of Moreno into the team seems to have made all the difference.

Moreno represented Colombia in the 2011 Copa America, and as a result he was not available for Tijuana’s first game last week. He’s come straight into the starting lineup and made massive difference in this game, scoring the opener with an absolutely stunning strike from 25 yards. The second goal was a tap-in for Corona, the three-passport holder who has yet to decide his international future. The pacy winger also scored last week for Tijuana and is already making a major name for himself in the Primera.

Victor Manuel Vucetich is going to need to make some changes at halftime. Santana got his team back into the game, but they were still second best in the middle of the half after dominating prior to Moreno’s goal. He might not make a substitution right away, but expect to see Walter Ayovi and Dario Carreño at some point.
