Two weeks, two straight average performances from Club America. Last week they were able to get a win out of an average performance against a poor Queretaro team, but they weren’t so lucky in Week 2 of the 2011 Apertura. Thanks to an early goal, some solid defending, and some poor finishing by America, Toluca were able to come away with a 1-1 draw despite being taken down to 10 men early on.
Club America Vs. Toluca: Final Score, Super Aguilas Disappoint In 1-1 Draw
The opener was scored by Toluca just two minutes into the game, gifted to them by some atrocious defending. Every member of the America back line had a chance to clear the ball during a scramble in the box in the second minute, but all of them failed as the ball eventually fell to Ivan Alonso, who finished off the chance to give his side a 1-0 lead.
Vicente Vuoso scored the equalizer in the 22nd minute, but all he had to do was tap it in. The hard work was done by ‘Chucho’ Cristian Benitez, who beat multiple defenders before sliding a great cross from the left side of the penalty area to the far post, setting up Vuoso for a simple goal.
In the 28th minute, Toluca defender Edgar Dueñas managed to achieve the rare feat of getting sent off by accumulating two yellow cards in under 90 seconds. He committed successive dangerous fouls during two different sequences, giving the ref no choice but to send him off.
Unfortunately for fans of the Super Aguilas, their team were not sharp for the remainder of the game and failed to capitalize on their advantage, walking away with just one point.
