Cristian Zapata, who is currently playing for Colombia at the 2011 Copa America, appears to be on his way from Udinese to Villarreal.
Cristian Zapata A Superb Signing - Villarreal USA
According to Allen Dodson of SB Nation’s Villarreal blog Villarreal USA, the answer to that is ‘a lot’. Zapata, 24, is just what the club needed to fix its defensive depth, giving them a major upgrade on set pieces, positioning, and pace. Really, there’s not much to love about this signing - he’s an all-around player already good enough to start for a Champions League calibre team, and he’s good enough to get better.
An excellent deal indeed.

Zapata is an extremely versatile player with size, pace, and technical skill. Due to his varied skill set, he’s shown an ability to play as a central defender or defensive right back in a four-man back line, or as an outside central defender in a three-man back line. He’s only 24 years old, so he’s a player very much in his prime. Both Udinese and Villarreal finished in Champions League places last season, so while Villarreal has been the more successful team in the recent past, this is a relatively lateral move in the present.
