The Montreal Impact announced Wednesday the hiring of Jesse Marsch as their first Major League Soccer head coach for 2012. Marsch will guide the Impact in their inaugural season in MLS next year and will be his first head coach job of his career.

Former Chivas USA captain will be the first head coach for the Montreal Impact next year.
“The club has found the head coach that we were looking for,” said Montreal Impact president Joey Saputo. “Jesse Marsch fits into the structure we want to build for MLS. He has the knowledge and experience having worked at the highest level in North America. He is a real competitor and a true winner. Jesse Marsch is a hard working coach, who will bring passion and energy to our club.”
Before coming to Montreal, he served as an assistant coach to Bob Bradley with the United States Men's National Team. He helped coach the U.S. team to advance to the round of 16 in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. With the U.S. he also coached and worked with the U23, U18, U17 and U15 youth national team programs.
Marsch played 14 seasons in MLS with DC United, the Chicago Fire and Chivas USA. He won three MLS Cups (1996, 1997 and 1998) and four US Open Cups (1996, 1998, 2000 and 2003) as a player in the league.
Marsch is widely respected around the league as he continues to serve on the league’s 2011 MLS Disciplinary Committee. Many believe he was going to be highly sought after for a coaching job in MLS after Bradley was dismissed from the USMNT. It is a little surprising that his former club, Chicago, didn’t make a pitch for him as their next head coach. Either way the Impact are getting a very good coach that understands the unique system that is MLS, something that has always been a struggle for expansion clubs in the past.
