Arsene Wenger Writes Cesc Fabregas A Breakup Letter

A facetious take on Cesc Fabregas’ please let it end, go away Barcelona, transfer saga.

All you do is cry, now! That’s all you do!
All you do is cry, now! That’s all you do!
All you do is cry, now! That’s all you do!

So that’s it then? You’re really leaving? You’re even taking a paycut to go? Fine. Fine, Cesc. I thought we were better than Ronaldo and Ferguson, and Owen and Benitez. We had that flair, that compatibility; you believed in my plan! We were different, you and I. After all the things I did for you, this is the thanks I get?!?

Remember that, Cesc? I freed you! You were a 16-year-old with no hope, no prospects and very little to aspire for. If I hadn’t stepped in, you would’ve ended up like Francis Jeffers. Broken, and stuck in the tedium of the Scottish Premier League. But, then I rescued you; I gave you a home. Sure, you had to learn English, but I didn’t go back on my promise, did I? I started you just a month after you came, as I promised. Sure, it was the Carling Cup, but that is where dreams are made, like last year.

And then I played you, in 2004-05, and I encouraged you, and then I sold Vieira, for you, dammit. I sold Vieira. Think about that for a moment, you ungrateful worm. I SOLD PATRICK VIEIRA AND THAT ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU!

But that's not all. I made you the centerpiece of the team, the man to lead this team into the brand new Emirates Stadium, the man to get us (us, dammit, us) silverware. I surrounded you with friends. Do you think I wanted Denilson, Carlos Vela and Alex Hleb? Why do you think I kept Philippe Senderos, when he'd already shown he couldn't contain Drogba? I DID THIS FOR YOU, CESC! FOR YOU.

I gave you a contract, an eight-year contract, because I never wanted to lose you, and you never wanted to leave! Dammit, you said it to me, the Monday after we went out of the Champions League and Premier League title. Hell, I put up with your injured hamstrings because you were that special.

Feeling any remorse, yet, Cesc? Feel any regret? Because it gets worse. I made you captain, and I bought you players who knew how to play with you, Cesc. Samir Nasri, and Andrey Arshavin came specifically for you. We were happy, we were young, we had potential. And then, in the summer of 2009, you started to distance yourself. When you came back from the Confederations Cup (and lost, may I remind you, lost to the United States!), you were different. You started talking about how brilliant Barcelona were, how you wish Hleb was still here instead of that useless berk Bendtner. You mumbled something to me about how Xavi said you had Barca DNA.

I understood though. I told you that we could repeat what Barcelona was doing, and how we would buy players who had Arsenal DNA, like you! And, you smiled that wonderful smile and you said "Don't worry. I believe in you".

But now Cesc? Now you want to go. Fine. We don't need you anymore. Aaron Ramsey has way more mental strength and leadership ability than you ever will, I'll have you know! And he's got your ability too, that effortless pass, that brilliant intelligence. I'm tired of your crap. We hardly ever speak anymore, and when we do it's "Xavi this, Iniesta that, Pique is so amazing, I hope he wasn't heartbroken by Ibra and how cool is Lionel, why don't we have anyone like him" (I'll have you know Cesc that Robin has a better scoring record than Messi. If he only he stayed fit!).

I GAVE YOU EVERYTHING YOU WANTED, DAMMIT! EVERYTHING! I SACRIFICED TROPHIES AND MY MANAGERIAL REPUTATION FOR YOU! BUT ALL YOU DO IS TRY AND LEAVE FOR BARCELONA! I MADE YOU INTO WHO YOU ARE! ME! NOT BARCELONA, ME! BUT YOU KNOW WHAT, I ONLY HAVE ONE LAST THING TO SAY TO YOU, CESC!

Please stay. I still love you.
