After a pursuit that lasted for most of the summer, Liverpool have secured the signing of now-former Newcastle United fullback Jose Enrique for £6M. The 25-year-old played in well over 100 matches for the Magpies, scoring one goal in the process, and was instrumental in seeing them hold their own in their return to the Premiership in the 2010/11 season. With Liverpool's fullback problems, it was no surprise that they'd be after reinforcements, and Enrique is thrilled that he was the man selected:

This is one of the happiest days of my life. I have come to one of the biggest clubs not just in England, but in the world. You can see they have big ambitions and that’s why I came here - because I want to win things and I think I can do that here. My ambition is win everything with Liverpool. This year we won’t play in the Champions League, so the most important thing is to try and win the league.

Ok, so the winning the league thing seems more than a little ambitious, but good on the defender for having high hopes. One wonders how long it’ll be before Kenny Dalglish converts him to the midfield. Anyway, that’s one big saga done, and the Reds are now looking a fairly complete side.
