According to various reports in both Spanish and English media, including a good one by the almost always reliable Sid Lowe at The Guardian, Valencia CF's Spanish international left winger is close to a move to Chelsea FC. The deal is believed to be agreed on in principle, with some finer details still to be worked out. The move is expected to be finalized on Saturday.
Juan Mata Rumored Close To Chelsea Move
Spanish international Juan Mata is close to a move to Stamford Bridge, with the transfer expected to be finalized over the weekend.
Between Alexis Sanchez going to Barcelona and Neymar staying at Santos FC for the time being, Chelsea have missed out on the big transfer targets who would operate in wide positions up until this point in the transfer window. With Florent Malouda aging and Daniel Sturridge thought of by many as not ready to play a significant role for Chelsea, left wing was always a need for Chelsea, so this signing makes a whole lot of sense for the Blues.
It also makes a whole lot of sense for Valencia to sell him. Thanks to some awful business decisions and worse timing in the building of the new Mestalla, the club is saddled with serious debt and would be seriously helped by the rumored €27 million that Mata's transfer would bring in. Additionally, they have just added Sergio Canales on loan from Real Madrid. Though Canales is more of a natural central attacking player while Mata is more of a natural left winger, both players can play both positions, so it's likely that Valencia already have a low-cost replacement already on the team.
