DC United lost to Sporting Kansas City on Sunday. It was just their second loss in their past 11 games, but it also kept them out of a playoff spot. The field was less-than-ideal, to put it mildly. The normally pristine conditions at Livestrong Sporting Park probably had some effect on the game.
Steve Cronin Keepin’ It Classy
Still, it’s more than a little disappointing for the backup goalkeeper for the losing team to almost immediately go to Twitter with the following message:
My defender of the game award goes to KC's shitty field. Hard to create anything on that. Looking forward to 3pts at home next weekend
Not exactly taking the high road, is he? Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for athletes being on Twitter and even speaking their mind. But they have to understand that they risk coming off like jackasses when they say this kind of stuff. This is just classic sore-loser stuff
Let’s keep in mind that Cronin did not even play in this game. He might be absolutely right about the field, but he’s probably not the best person to be going public with his complaints.
Maybe I should be encouraging this kind of stuff, though. After all, the more athletes are honest online the more I have to write about. It’s just that sometimes the messenger matters. And when you’re the backup keeper for the losing team, sometimes it’s better to keep it to yourself.
