The Portland Timbers will expand capacity for two of their final regular-season games, opening up an additional 1,600 or so seats. The Timbers have sold out all 13 of their previous MLS home games and even drew more than 10,000 to a Reserve League match on Sunday.

The capacity for the Sept. 16 game against the New England Revolution and the Oct. 14 game against the Dynamo will be 20,323. Among those added seats will be about 1,200 in the Timbers Army section.

“When considering our maximum capacity entering our first MLS season, we opted to cover certain sections out of concern that our concourse width affects the fan experience over a certain attendance threshold,” Timbers COO Mike Golub said in a team statement. “We are comfortable with the current operation of the venue and are undertaking a two-game test of attendance increase to see if we can permanently expand our capacity a bit and meet increased demand with negligible impact on the overall fan experience.”
