Chelsea FC Announce Signing Of Juan Mata From Valencia On Five-Year Deal

All of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea FC were reportedly in for Valencia and Spanish international winger Juan Mata, but it was the Blues who eventually got their main. Chelsea has announced this afternoon via their official club website that Mata has signed for the club on a five-year contract. Mata can operate as both a left winger and a central attacking midfield player, but he is expected to play almost exclusively on the left for Chelsea this season.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Mata implicitly dropped the bomb on Arsenal and Spurs supporters:

‘Valencia was a big club anyway but I have left to join a bigger club and it is all about the opportunity to win trophies and I have that here.’

Of course, the implication there is that Mata has a much, much better chance to win trophies than he did at the other two clubs who were attempting to sign him. At this point in time, that is almost certainly true.
