Close the book on Tristan Bowen's disappointing 2011 season with Chivas USA. The once-highly touted prospect, and the first player to officially graduate from an MLS academy, has been loaned out to KSV Roeselare of Belgium's Second Division.
Tristan Bowen Loaned From Chivas USA To Belgian 2nd Division
Bowen, the first MLS academy product to sign a senior contract with the league, has failed to see much playing time during his first year at Chivas USA.
Bowen showed some promise last season when he filled in for Edson Buddle while the forward was with the United States national team at the World Cup. He had two goals and two assists in 10 starts, but more relevantly looked consistently dangerous and appeared to be a forward of the future.
Somewhat surprisingly, he was traded to Chivas USA in the offseason where he was expected to get considerably more playing time. That trade happened before Robin Fraser took over, though, and he has clearly not impressed his new coach. Bowen has appeared in just three games all season and never made a start. He has played just 60 minutes all season, managing just two shots on goal.
In KSV Roeselare, he’ll be about as far away from his previous soccer experience as possible. Roeselare is a town of about 57,000 people. The team is made up of a combination of professionals and amateurs and has been in the second division for most of its recent history.
