On Sunday, Arsenal suffered an 8-2 drubbing at the hands of Manchester United at Old Trafford. Thanks to injuries, suspensions and sales of players who have not yet been replaced, Arsenal played a side that looked average at best on the team sheet, then much worse than that on the pitch. Wayne Rooney scored a hat trick, Ashley Young scored two screamers, and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny didn't even have a bad game.
Arsenal Offers Free Tickets After Manchester United Loss, While Arsene Wenger Apologizes
It was embarrassing, and the worst part about the loss for the fans was probably having to take the train home to London with all of the Man United fans. This is why Arsenal are offering free tickets to another away game for fans who made the trip up to Old Trafford this weekend.
If these fans are smart, they’ll pick a game against a Premier League minnow. That is, unless Arsene Wenger plans to sign five or six new players in the next three days. Arsenal aren’t a team “in crisis,” but they’re obviously nowhere near the title contenders and in serious danger of missing Champions League football.
Arsene Wenger had his own way of apologizing, directly saying sorry to the fans in the post-match press conference.
"I can only apologise for the score," Wenger said. "It hurts very much. The fans were great and I feel sorry for them. They do not want to see their team like that. We can only apologise and come back in our strength and desire in the next game."
Arsenal’s next game is at home against Swansea, so I hope Arsene’s right. If they don’t manage to win that game, a full-fledged riot might break out.
