Arsenal Transfer News: Yossi Benayoun Finalizes One-Year Loan With Gunners

Arsene Wenger continues to add pieces to his squad that looked to be full of holes just three days ago when Manchester United ripped them apart, 8-2. The latest move is Yossi Benayoun joining Arsenal on a one-year loan from Chelsea, giving the team more options in the attack. Benayoun has been linked to several clubs in the last month as it became clear that Chelsea had no interest in keeping him at Stamford Bridge.

The Israeli international will play in his country’s upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers then join his new club in North London. There were initially some work permit concerns, but the work permit proved to not be the slightest of issues so Benayoun will join the Gunners for a year.

With the 31-year-old's ability to play out on the wing and spark the attack, it could be the end of Andrei Arshavin, whose recent performances have been downright dreadful. He also helps cover the departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri. While in no way as good as the departed players, he is a quality player who can give the Gunners good play in the midfield, where they need help because of their stars departures.

Benayoun is the only move that Arsenal have made on the final day of the transfer window. The only other things that the Gunners have done is confirm the transfers of Per Mertesacker and Andre Santos, both of which were sorted out on Tuesday. There are still rumors that the club are trying to work out a deal for Everton's Mikel Arteta with Arteta certainly keen on the move as the Spaniard looks to make a move to the Emirates, but time is running out.
