La Liga Transfer Update: Espanyol Very Active As Deadline Passes

  • Espanyol's 30 year-old captain Luís García signed a three year contract with relegation-level Zaragoza today, only hours before the transfer deadline. Luís García started his professional tenure with Real Madrid, but left at an early age for Espanyol, where he played for most of his career. He's an exciting winger with a knack for scoring goals at opportune moments, but his salary was too high for Espanyol, who decided to let him go with one year left on his contract.
  • At the same time, Espanyol managed to secure the services of Sevilla's center midfielder Romaric, who will join the Catalan club on a season-long loan. He should see more time at Espanyol than he did at Sevilla, where he was stuck in a bit of a time share with various other midfielders.
  • In a relatively odd move, Ferrán Corominas or "Coro" rescinded his contract with Espanyol--where he was stuck behind various players, to sign a one year deal with second division Girona. While many players would scoff at a move to the second division, Coro decided that Girona was his best option, as he was buried in the depth chart at Espanyol.
  • Rayo Vallecano have announced the transfer of ex-Real Madrid backup Raúl Bravo from Greek side Olympiacos (how many times have we heard that today?). The ex-Real Madrid and Spain left back will play for Rayo for at least the next season, though the full details of the contract haven't yet been reported. This move caps off a really turbulent transfer window for Olympiacos, who lost two players to Spain, while obtaining one in return. Odd to say the least.
