Anzhi Mahkachkala In Samuel Eto’o Bid

Anzhi Mahkachkala have launched a shock bid for Inter Milan and Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o.

If anyone thought that Anzhi Mahkachkala was done for the summer after buying Chelsea midfielder Yuri Zhirkov for £13.2M... well, think again. The Russian outfit, who were amongst the teams rumoured to be bidding for Neymar earlier in the summer, are attempting to make a huge splash in the transfer market by acquiring Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto'o from Inter Milan.

Anzhi have apparently bid around €40M for the prolific forward - Inter president Massimo Moratti described the proposed deal as ‘interesting’, ‘intelligent’, and ‘valuing our player’. There’ve also been reports that Eto’o has already agreed personal terms with Anzhi and that all that’s left is finalising the deal between the two sides. If true, this transfer could happen very, very quickly, possibly before the end of the week.

Yes, it'd be a little bit strange to see one of the world's best strikers dropping from a club two years removed from winning the Champions League to the Russian Premier League, but the owners are looking to make a bit of a splash. It's a similar (if more extravagant) situation as which occurred when the Javier Pastore to Paris Saint-Germain deal stunned most of the footballing world last month. Is a power shift occurring in the leagues of Europe?
