Landon Donovan will suit up for the United States national team when they play Costa Rica on Friday, but will not travel with the team when it takes on Belgium Sept. 6. Instead, Donovan will stay in Los Angeles in order to prepare for the Galaxy's match against the Colorado Rapids on Sept. 9 and their match at Morelia on Sept. 13. USMNT teammate Kyle Beckerman will be on a similar schedule as Real Salt Lake prepares for their stretch run of the MLS season.
Landon Donovan Won’t Join USMNT On Trip To Belgium
The roster for the match against Belgium has yet to be announced, but several European-based players who were not on the roster against Costa Rica are expected to be included. Among the additions will likely be Clint Dempsey and Steve Cherundolo. Dempsey is currently with Fulham of the EPL, while Cherundolo is with Hanover 96 of the Bundesliga. Fabian Johnson, who was originally listed as being on the roster for the Costa Rica match, is unlikely to be on the roster against Belgium as the paperwork needed to switch to the USMNT has yet to be completed.
