Time to add to what is becoming a rather lengthy list of bad injures suffered this season in Major League Soccer. Following a collision with Chivas USA defender Junior Lopes in the 68th minute of DC United's 3-0 win last Saturday night, United forward Chris Pontius sustained a non-displaced fracture of his right tibia.
DC United’s Chris Pontius Suffers Broken Leg
The third-year striker sustained a broken leg in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Chivas USA.

There are no details at this time as far as how long Pontius will be out of action and what his recovery time looks like. In a recent interview with DCUnited.com, Pontius said the accident was a freak-injury.
It was a great game for us before the injury, I was really enjoying playing out there [against Chivas]. It was one of those awkward challenges, a fifty-fifty ball, and looking back on it now I shouldn’t have gone in [to the challenge]. Looking at it now I was actually the one who went in late on the tackle, so there was no malice in the challenge from either player, I just came out on the wrong side of the tackle.
Pontius also has been reached out by another young star in MLS who also suffered a broken leg this season, Seattle Sounders' Steve Zakuani.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for Steve [Zakuani] and the things he’s gone through, and for how positive he’s been throughout his whole experience. I had a conversation with him earlier this week, and he told me to keep my head up. That’s what I’m doing, I’m going to focus on the positives. I wish I was attending the game in Seattle, because I always enjoy going up there, even if I wasn’t playing in the game. Steve is a tremendous person and I’m thankful for him reaching out to me like that.
Pontius is enjoying the best season of his three-year career. He has scored seven goals and registered five assists this season. In United's 3-0 victory over Chivas, Pontius assisted on all three of Charlie Davies' goals.
