The San Jose Earthquakes do not exactly have the most robust season-ticket base. Exact numbers aren't readily available, but it's safe to say they are in the bottom four or five in the league, despite playing in a stadium that barely holds about 10,500 fans. As they move closer to eventually having their own stadium, though, they are clearly making efforts to make sure they retain the ones they have.
Earthquakes Offer Fans NASL-Era Kit As Gift For Season-Ticket Deposits
The latest example of this effort comes in the 2012 season-ticket renewals. The Earthquakes are offering fans a replica of the old NASL jerseys, among other things, with a $50 deposit. This is apparently being offered to new season-ticket holders as well.
The Earthquakes are, of course, one of four MLS teams that got their name from their NASL predecessors, with the Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps being the others. For a long time, MLS went to great lengths to distance itself from the NASL, but those days are clearly long gone. With that in mind, it would be great to see more of these teams more fully embrace that lineage by actually playing in these kind of throw-back jerseys.
