If Barcelona's recent human form and Atletico Madrid's recent excellent form had you thinking that Atleti might be able to challenge the mighty Blaugranas this weekend, you were wrong. Apologies, Barca haters, but today is not your day. Radamel Falcao and Diego have been shut down and Daniel Alves is showing great positional discipline as a right central defender (seriously). Lionel Messi has been the best player on the pitch to the surprise of absolutely no one, and Barca lead 3-0 after 45 minutes of play.
Barcelona Vs. Atletico Madrid Live, 2011 La Liga: Halftime, Lionel Messi And Blaugranas Brilliant
The first goal came just nine minutes into the game, and it was an absolutely brilliant one. Picking up the ball on the left hand side of the penalty area, Villa beat his defender and scored with a brilliant finish that was absolutely unstoppable. The second goal was an unfortunate own goal, as Thibaut Courtois made a brilliant save on Lionel Messi, but the ball hit off of an unaware Miranda and deflected into the back of the net. Messi scored the third, assisted by Pedro, with some absolutely unbelievable moves in the box that only Messi can pull off.
There doesn’t appear to be any way back for Atletico. Pep Guardiola’s 3-4-3 is working to perfection at the moment, and it would be surprising to see a turn in this match.
