Robbie Keane Will Reportedly Miss LA Galaxy-New York Red Bulls Match

Keane will reportedly skip the Galaxy’s game against the Red Bulls in order to join the Ireland national team prior to their Euor ‘12 qualifiers.

Robbie Keane will not play in the Los Angeles Galaxy's rescheduled match against the New York Red Bulls on Oct. 4, SB Nation site LAG Confidential reports. It has been known for some time that Keane would be joining the Ireland national team for a pair of Euro '12 qualifiers on Oct. 7 and 11, but it was unclear until now if he would remain with the Galaxy long enough to play a game that TV executives were probably drooling over.

As it stands now, that match between the Galaxy and the Red Bulls is not nearly as interesting as it looked when it was originally scheduled back in August. At the time, it was being billed as the greatest collection of talent ever assembled for a MLS game. Each team would have potentially field three Designated Players and both teams were thick in their conference-title races.

Now, the Galaxy have all but sewn up the Supporters' Shield and could very well choose to rest Landon Donovan or David Beckham for CONCACAF Champions League play. The Galaxy have a match on the West Coast the previous weekend and the United States national team will play on the Saturday and Tuesday following the Red Bulls match, and Donovan is likely to play in those matches. The Red Bulls, meanwhile, seem to actually be playing better when one of their DPs, Rafael Marquez, is not on the field.
