It was hardly an earth-shattering performance by AC Milan against Viktoria Plzen at the San Siro, but it got the job done and ensured that the Italian champions kept pace with Barcelona at the top of Group H. Viktoria, meanwhile, gave a strong account of themselves on hostile turf, threatening several times in the first half while keeping their rather more illustrious hosts relatively quiet.

The Czechs never looked like the better side, but as the minutes passed the home fans started to get worried that they weren't going to be able break the deadlock. The tension eased in the 53rd minute, when a handball by Marian Cisnovski meant that Zlatan Ibrahimovic was able to fire Milan into the lead from the penalty area. It was still a little nervy, however, with Plzen pressing for the unlikeliest of equalisers until Antonio Cassano made it 2-0 fifteen minutes later, tucking a cross past Marek Cech to wrap up the points for the hosts.
