LA Galaxy Add Depth With Signing Of Defender Andrew Boyens

The LA Galaxy's quest to have the biggest roster in the league continued on Tuesday when manager Bruce Arena confirmed that the club had signed defender Andrew Boyens. Chivas USA declined to pick up his options after the 2011 season and the defending champions selected Boyens in the second stage of the MLS Re-Entry Draft. Boyens spent just one season with Chivas, appearing 13 times and scoring one goal, after three years with New York and one with Toronto.

In addition to league play and the U.S. Open Cup, Los Angeles has the knockout stages of the 2011-2012 CONCACAF Champions League looming in the spring and the group stages of the 2012-2013 CONCACAF Champions League in the late summer and fall. With so many matches on the slate for the year, LA has made veteran depth a priority so they have the roster to compete on so many fronts. They selected Pat Noonan and Jon Conway in the Re-Entry Draft in addition to re-signing Frankie Hejduk and Dasan Robinson. Now another selection, Boyens, is under contract as Operation Depth continues in LA.
