San Luis are off to a brilliant start in the 2012 Clausura and look very much like a Liguilla team at present. They defeated a poor Estudiantes Tecos side on Friday night, making the most of their chances in a 2-0 victory. After scoring an early goal, San Luis were more concerned with keeping their shape and keeping the ball than they were with creating chances as they tried to hang on to a lead on the road. At the end of a nice passing move in the 18th minute, Wilmer Aguirre touched the ball into the path of Alfredo Moreno, who ripped a shot on target. Christian Martinez made a save, but directed the ball right into Moreno’s path. He finished his second chance, putting his team up 1-0.

For Liguilla favorites Jaguares Chiapas, Pumas UNAM and Chivas Guadalajara, Jornada 1 did not go as planned. Jaguares lost on the road to a good Monterrey side, while Pumas and Chivas were both disappointing in matches where they were expected to get points. Pumas plays their home opener and will be tested by Morelia, while Chivas and Jaguares play each other.
