La Liga Saturday Scores, Week 18: Rayo Grabs Big Win, Sevilla-Espanyol Somehow Goalless

With every single week that goes by, it looks more and more possible that Levante can actually find a way to clinch a European place. Sevilla dropped points yet again, drawing Espanyol at home despite having plenty of scoring chances. Elsewhere, Rayo Vallecano defeated Granada and Getafe dropped points against La Liga's worst side.

Granada 1-2 Rayo Vallecano

Rayo have been a pleasant surprise in La Liga this season, and they look set to stay up this year. Miguel Perez and Piti were the goal scorers, with the second coming in the 52nd minute, allowing Rayo to get a bit defensive. Fran Rico got one back late, but Granada couldn’t find an equalizer. Inigo Lopez was shown a straight red for misconduct in stoppage time.

Real Zaragoza 1-1 Getafe

Hey, a point for Zaragoza! They now have just 11 of those on the season, putting them bottom of La Liga. This is a spot where Getafe would have liked to pick up three points to give themselves some cushion in the relegation race. Maurizio Lanzaro put Zaragoza up in the first half, but they gave the points away in the 79th minute. Javier Paredes scored an own goal on a corner kick to give Getafe one point.

Sevilla 0-0 Espanyol

On paper, a draw against Espanyol is not embarrassing, but the fashion in which Sevilla did it surely was. They created enough chances to score five goals, but their finishing was downright woeful. They took 19 shots but hardly made Francisco Castilla work.
