Benedict Howedes Fractures Cheekbone Against Stuttgart
Schalke captain Benedict Höwedes suffered a fractured cheekbone against Stuttgart.

The German international was injured in the 32nd minute of the match when he collided with teammate Marco Höger. Höwedes was subsutituted minutes later and taken to the hospital. He is currently scheduled to have surgery on Monday morning.
There is a possibility that Höwedes can return after only three weeks with the use of a mask, but this is not expected.
The club will need to determine immediately if it will be necessary for them to bring in any defensive reinforcements. In today’s match, Christoph Metzelder replaced Höwedes. Now that they’re level on points with Bayern Munich, can they count on Metzelder to anchor the backline in a title race until Höwedes gets back? On that note, what options out there exist for them if they decided to buy someone instead?
