Nicklas Bendtner Has ‘A Few Cracks’ In His Face

Sunderland striker Nicklas Bendtner will be sidelined for several weeks with facial injuries sustained against Swansea City.

Sunderland’s Nicklas Bendtner looked as though he’d suffered a broken nose during the Black Cat’s weekend match against Swansea - a painful injury, but not one that would see the on-loan Arsenal striker absent for a prolonged period. Unfortunately, according to manager Martin O’Neill, Bendtner’s injury is a little worse than a mere broken nose:

[Bendtner has] got a bit more than a broken nose. It’s difficult to put a timescale on it, but it’s going to be lengthy. We thought at one stage he might be OK. The early signs, even on Sunday morning, were that it looked as if it might be OK. But he’s going to be out for a number of weeks now, which is definitely a blow to us. He has a few cracks and we just have to bide our time with that.

‘Just a few cracks’ in his face. No big deal, eh? Anyway, Sunderland will be without Bendtner for a few games, which means they’re once again pretty low on strikers. Young Connor Wickham is the obvious replacement, but it might behoove Sunderland and O’Neill to pick up another loanee this window.
