Ramires Out At Least Four Weeks With Knee Injury

Chelsea may have won on Saturday to advance to the fifth round of the FA Cup, but they did take a blow as Ramires went off with an injured knee that we now know will keep him out "at least four weeks." That four month absence would mean that the Brazilian would miss at least four Premier League matches and the first leg of Chelsea's Champions League round of 16 tie against Napoli.

The midfielder was injured while blocking a shot and he fell to the turf as soon as the ball hit him. Trainers rushed to the field to treat him and it took a while before he was stretchered off the field. In all, a four-week absence would not too bad considering how serious the injury looked when he was stretchered off.

"It's not so bad in terms of knee injuries," Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas said. "He'll have the MRI on Sunday and we'll know the full extent. Hopefully he is going to avoid an operation and he is going be back soon.

“We have to know the extent of the injury – eventually with treatment we could look at a four-week period, maybe more, hopefully not.”

A four-match absence would mean that Ramires would miss matches againstSwansea, Manchester United, Everton and Bolton, in addition to the first leg against Napoli.
