FC Dallas Signs Blas Perez, Hernan Pertuz

FC Dallas’ offseason suddenly got much more interesting with the signing of Panamanian forward Blas Perez.

What has been a quiet offseason for FC Dallas suddenly sprung to life on Tuesday when the team announced the dual signings of Panamanian striker Blas Perez and center back Hernan Pertuz of Colombia. Perez, in particular, is an intriguing signing as the 31-year-old is a proven goal scorer on both the international and club level.

Last year, Perez netted 19 goals in 23 starts for Mexican second-division side Leon. He has been a scorer in Mexico’s top division as well, scoring 17 goals in 2008-09 while playing for UANL and Pachuca, respectively. He has also scored 22 international goals in 38 appearances with Panama.

“Blas is a player we always had on our radar,” FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman said in a team release. “We are extremely happy we found a way to bring him to MLS to play for FC Dallas. Pérez is a tremendous striker that continues to score goals everywhere he goes. We expect him to bring that finishing ability to FC Dallas.”

Pertuz, 23, appears to be more of a depth player. He played for Independiente Medellin for the Colombian first division.
