Everton Vs. Bolton Wanderers, 2012 Premier League: Final Score, Tim Howard Scores But Toffees Fall

Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard scored an improbable 95-yard goal against Bolton Wanderers, but none of his outfield players managed to help his cause. After Howard's goal, Everton fell apart and gave away a lead at home, ultimately losing 2-1. The match was built up as must-watch TV for Landon Donovan's Everton debut, but ended up being much more about Howard's goal, another Everton collapse and some Toffees injuries.

All three of David Moyes' subs were made because of injuries, something that a thin Everton squad can hardly afford. Phil Jagielka was removed in the 42nd minute, Leon Osman came out in the 53rd minute, and Jack Rodwell had to be substituted out in the 61st minute. This seriously handcuffed Moyes tactically and did not allow him to use his bench to change the game.

Howard's improbable goal gave a previously poor game some new life in the 63rd minute. Booting the ball up the field while simply looking for a teammate, the high winds at Goodison Park took control of the ball. It missed everyone and bounced on the turf, then flew up and over the head of Adam Bogdan into the back of the net, giving Everton the lead in shocking fashion.

Over the next 15 minutes, they would give it away. David N'Gog and Gary Cahill both scored with terrific strikes to the far post that Howard had little chance of saving, both coming on odd scrambles where the Toffees had chances to clear the ball. Those two goals gave Bolton all three points, a spectacular result for the one-bottom team. They're now in 18th and continue to slowly work their way out of the drop zone.
