Columbus Crew Sign Herediano Forward Olman Vargas

Just a few days after making their first big offseason move, the Columbus Crew were at it again. This time, they've signed former Herediano forward Olman Vargas to a multi-year deal. Combined with the signing of Milovan Mirosevic, the Crew have now added some serious scoring power to an offense that ranked 10th in the league and scored fewer goals than all but one playoff team.

“Olman is a tall, physical forward who promises to be a great addition to our club,” Crew head coach Robert Warzycha said in a team release. “He has good speed, a good touch and he works extremely hard.”

Vargas stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 170 pounds, both attributes that should serve him well in MLS. He’ll likely replace departed Designated Player Andres Mendoza, who despite scoring 13 goals last season proved to be a divisive figure.

In the past two seasons at Herediano, Vargas scored 17 goals. He helped lead Herediano into the most recent CONCACAF Champions League where they were in a group with the Seattle Sounders and Monterrey.
