Phil Jagielka will miss up to six weeks with a knee injury suffered in a challenge with David Ngog in Everton's 2-1 loss to Bolton on Wednesday. The defender injured the medial ligaments in his knee, a scare for a player who missed almost an entire year after injuring his left knee in 2009. It also leaves Everton in quite a bind as they run short on players and lack the funds to bring in reinforcements.

With Jagielka out, Sylvain Distin and John Heitinga are now the only healthy centerbacks left at David Moyes disposal, an issue for a team so dependent on a strong defense. The Toffees have scored the fourth fewest goals in the Premier League, but have gotten along just fine because they have allowed just 22 goals in 19 matches this season, the fifth fewest in the league. Now that Jagielka is out, that vital defense looks a little bit more shaky and puts the Toffees on thin ice.

In addition to Jagielka, Leon Osman and Jack Rodwell went off with injuries during Wednesday's match, joining Tim Cahill and Ross Barkley on the list of injured Everton players. Moyes admitted that the club needed to bring in more players to help get through their injury crisis, but he said that it would likely be via loans, which is no surprise considering the lack of money available at Goodison Park.
