In 2007, with Thierry Henry on the downswing of his career and coming off of an injury, Arsene Wenger took the opportunity to sell him to Barcelona while his value was still high. Though most believed Wenger did what he had to do, Henry was never truly replaced until Robin van Persie finally got healthy enough to go on a scoring rampage in the first half of this season.

With Marouane Chamakh going away to the Africa Cup of Nations, Wenger opted to bring back Henry on a two-month loan from New York Red Bulls. With his team drawing Leeds United 0-0 in the FA Cup, Wenger gave Henry his second Arsenal debut. Henry followed the script and scored the game winner. It probably doesn’t reflect too well on Arsenal that they needed a 34-year-old MLS player to rescue them against a second division club, but there’s nothing to take away from the finish. Henry has showed with many of his MLS goals that he still has the class to finish in tight spaces, and that’s exactly what he did on Monday.
