Universidad de Chile don’t appear likely to defend their Copa Sudamericana title. They had an absolute nightmare of a match at home against Sao Paulo on Wednesday.
Sao Paulo effectively end La U’s title defense

Jorge Sampaoli, renown as one of the best tacticians in South America, had no answer for the individual brilliance of the visitors’ players on the night. La U went down to 10 men early in the first half after conceding twice, allowing Sao Paulo to easily win 2-0.
There was nothing that any La U defenders or that their manager’s tactics could have done to stop the opening goal. Picking up a pass from Wellington in the 8th minute, Willian Jose unleashed an absolutely unstoppable strike from 25 yards to fire his side into the lead. With Universidad de Chile pushing to regain an advantage, Sao Paulo took them apart on the counter after a corner kick, with Willian Jose finishing off the move again.
