La Liga, Week 13: Real Madrid goes down to Betis

Levante played in Europa League in mid-week, where they played a half-and-half first and second team. Expect manager Juan Ignacio Martinez to make numerous changes to his starting XI.

Today’s games were a perfect example: while Madrid’s fall from grace may be the story of the week, Malaga’s 4-0 demolishing of Valencia might be the more telling game. Málaga was just head and shoulders above their northern rivals, dominating every aspect of the game--no small feet from a team that lost its’ coach and best player over the summer. But the malagueños have continued to shock the pundits all year, with tonight’s convincing victory just one more in a series of impressing moments.

Two overperforming sides; only one can win. Well I guess they can draw. But yeah, these guys are over performing--Rayo, especially, is sitting in seventh place right now. They’re both good enough to stay up, don’t get me wrong; I just see them as sitting on the wrong side of 12th place (which is where la Real is now, I guess).
