Both European giants are owned by groups based in the Middle East and are both relatively recent entries into the world of big-time club ownership.

The owners of Manchester City and PSG are among the groups expressing interest in a potential New York City MLS franchise, according to a report in the Telegraph.

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan has transformed Manchester City into one of the world's powers, mainly through a series of high-profile signings. In 2008, just after he purchased the team, he signed Brazil's Robinho for a then-record £32.5 million transfer fee. In 2011, he paid £38 million for the right to sign Argentina's Sergio Aguero to a deal worth closer to £85 million.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who is also the director for Al Jazeera sports, has followed a similar model with PSG. Among his more notable signings are Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Lucas Mauro, Javier Pastore and Thiago Silva.
