It is thus far unclear what position Payne will be taking in Toronto’s FO, but it’s almost certainly going to be a major one. It would have taken a significant offer to pry him away from D.C. United, a team he’s been involved with since Major League Soccer’s inception. But the opportunity to shake up a struggling franchise that desperately needs an injection of new blood and ideas might just have been too much to pass up.
