Bayern Munich vs. Lille: Final score 6-1, Bayern romp to massive win

Alexander Hassenstein

Bayern Munich romped -- and romped is the correct word -- to a monster win against Lille at the Allianz Arena, building a 5-0 lead at halftime and sleepwalking through the second period to emerge with a 6-1 victory. With Mario Mandzukic out with an illness, Claudio Pizarro got a rare start, the Peruvian forward rewarding Jupp Heynckes with a fifteen-minute hattrick.

And yeah, that pretty much sums up Lille. They went behind in the fifth minute thanks to a Bastian Schweinsteiger free kick, and then Pizarro made it two after a brilliant turn and pass from Franck Ribery. Bayern then went on to score a goal every five minutes, with Robben repeating Schweinsteiger's feat from a free kick of his own before Pizarro scored in the 28th and 33rd minute to completely wrap up the points.

Salomon Kalou gave the visitors some hope* of a comeback with a spectacular 30-yard shot that rocketed into Manuel Neuer's top corner just after halftime, but substitute Toni Kroos completed the scoring in the 66th minute, depositing the ball neatly into Mickael Landreau's net after a cutback from Philipp Lahm. Bayern were enjoying themselves, and well they might -- it was a scintillating display from the Germans.

*If you stretch the definition of hope to include not having any hope whatsoever.
