Arsenal vs. Swansea City: Final score 0-2 as Michu stuns Gunners

Richard Heathcote

Swansea earned a surprising 2-0 lead at the Emirates Stadium thanks to a pair of late goals from Michu and an awful performance from Arsenal. The Gunners essentially slept through the match, looking for all the world as though they were playing for a draw, and were made to pay as the visitors' star striker pounced twice in the final five minutes.

The first half certainly wasn't what the home faithful were looking for. Arsenal would have expected to have by far the better of the game, but in truth they barely threatened Gerhard Tremmel's goal. Swansea, on the other hand, we dangerous throughout, with right back Angel Rangel forcing Wojciech Szczesny into a great double save after being played in by Etey Shechter and Nathan Dyer coming close to an opener only to be denied by a last-ditch block from Thomas Vermaelen.

The second half saw the Gunners improve, but still not nearly enough. Tremmel was called into action a few times, but his goal was only ever seriously at risk when Olivier Giroud came within a whisker of going one on one with the keeper -- Chico Flores' sliding challenge nicked the ball away just before wiping out the striker, leaving Mark Clattenburg to wave play on.

Szczesny, meanwhile, managed to stop a Dwight Tiendalli effort after a great interchange at the top of the box, a chance which should have woken Arsenal to the danger their guests still posed. It didn't. In the 88th minute, Michu burst through the defence, latching onto a lovely pass by Luke Moore before slotting home to give the Swans a shock lead.

The hosts desperately threw bodies forward, looking for the equaliser, but in their desperation to score they opened themselves up for a vicious counterattack. Dyer dispossessed Carl Jenkinson and set Michu away once more. He made no mistake this time either, killing off the Gunners with a composed finish and giving Swansea their first win at Arsenal in three decades.
